--> Kugluktuk, Nunavut, Canada (day 5)

Becky told me that it was quite hard to start a living in Kugluktuk on her own. Therefore she once listed the Positive Things About Kugluktuk on paper, which always seems to cheer her up. And most of it I can really understand now...

- the rainbow coloured rocks surrounding town
- gorgeous sunsets
- always somebody to drink tea with
- I can wake up 15 minutes before school starts and still be on time
- always have something to do
- it's quiet, lots of time for yourself
- the kids here need happy and enthusiastic people around
- so I can have many nephews and nieces I want to
- so many cool photos I can take here
- start any sort of program because there is a need for it

and

- everywhere you go some little person has a hug for you.

Monday. While Becky was at school again, I took out the skidoo for another drive around town.

Overlooking the rocks at the mouth of the Coppermine River.

I would love to see this same river in the summer time when it is not frozen.

Back at the high school I entered a class room where these kids had detention.

And detention meant they just had to sit still, be silent and wait.

And who talked would only lengthen the detention period.

Hey, this kid had no detention but decided to stay anyway.

It is time for Becky to wrap up the day at work.

And there goes the water truck that supplies every house with water.

From the West of town, while sitting on the rocks, I overlooked Kugluktuk with the sun behind me. Wonderful.

Tomorrow I am going to leave again. I guess it will be a bit hard!

I had to experience the local supermarket while I was here. Becky shows me the price of bread. About $4. And over date.

That is whale blubber - fat from a whale. Supposed to be very healthy!

Milk in 4-liter bottles. $14!!! and also a few days over date.

Simple cartons of fruit drinks, almost $10...

Of course, if you live in Kugluktuk, you eat chicken from a can!

- Dog food! Very necessary for Nanuk, but also very expensive.

And when done with groceries, I take the skidoo and head home with Becky on the back.

Tonight s late night desert will be: muffins!
