Reports

During my travels, I received free accommodation for a night in exchange for writing a daily travel diary. This diary documented how I reached my next destination, the hosts who welcomed me, the food I was offered, and other experiences along the way. Below, you will find the archives of these extensive reports. Please note that English is not my native language, and most entries were written quickly, often around midnight. Enjoy!

Brighton --> Shoreham-by-sea (UK)

About having a very easy day in Shoreham-by-sea and my hostess Helena who put me at ease for a day...

It was because of this big party at the discothec last night, that I woke up around 11.30 in the morning. I woke up myself, said hi to everybody watching television in the living room and got a shower.

Chris boiled me some eggs for breakfast and actually as they were watching some more cricket on tv I got enough time to update my reports and upload more pictures to this website.

It was around 4.45pm when Chris and Annette brought me to my next host in Shoreham-by-sea by car, which is only a 20 minutes drive.

At the front door I said goodbye to them and was ready to meet my new hostess, the Portugese lady Helena El Masri, who lives with her two little children in a very nice house.

Helena is a conductor/translater for all kinds of translations from English into Portugese and otherwise. She read about my project in a newspaper and decided somewhere in March to invite me over for a day!

I even met the father of the kids, Mohammed, who is originally from Lebanon and will be a commercial flights pilot soon. Mohammed and Helena don't live together anymore.

I handed over The Gift from Chris to Helena, which was a candle of a garden dwarf and the kids liked it very much.

Already when I got inside they were very anxious to meet me and asked so many questions I couldn't be answering them all!

I still was very tired from the last days so Helena didn't plan to do anything for tonight and I could be on the internet for the rest of the day.

After Mohammed left, I met Miguel, the current friend of Helena and we had some nice Portugese dinner with a spicy Arabic cheese salad.

Miguel owns a musicshop in Lisbon, Portugal and one in Brighton, called 'Illegal Records'. He had some famous deejays in his shop in Portugal and talked all about that.

I really had to visit Portugal and especially I had to go and listen to this certain kind of folk music only played in Lisbon.

After dinner Miguel helped Helena to translate some very big document into Portugese, while I could use the computer all night long. It was very relaxing, even as it might sound pretty boring to you though.

We even had some great laughs about Eddie Murphy in Coming To America, which was on the telly that night.

Around 10pm we got to bed and I got to sleep in Zane's bed, the little kid, who slept in her sisters room for this occasion.

Tomorrow we would do some sight seeing!

Goodnight Shoreham!

Ramon.

PS: A short report for today, but I am very thankful for Helena to have me take it easy!
